Logins
The site now remembers your username and password (providing your web browser accepts cookies), but logging out does not clear the cookie state. I will continue to work on fixing this, but be aware that the only way to actually log off the site is to clear the cookies in your web browser. This won’t be a big deal for most of you, but it is something to keep in mind if you’re working on a computer at the library or some other machine that you don’t normally use.
All this talk of logins leads me to my next topic—open or closed? I’ve been contemplating whether or not to make this an entirely closed site. Joomla! gives you the option of allowing each individual page to be viewed by different groups, but in the end, no one but the players really needs access to the information presented here, so a closed site makes sense, and I can always open it up later if need be.
Layout
The site has been optimized for a resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels, and the graphic to the right is the artwork of Jason Engle . I realize that using his artwork without permission is a copyright violation, but my intent isn’t to make money off his labors. This website generates no revenue of any sort. Actually, my intent is quite the opposite. I hope that you take the time to click on the link to Mr. Engle’s website and visit it. He is a very talented artist, and almost all of the artwork displayed on his site is for sale as prints.
I hope you like layout of the site!
Welcome!
The website itself is running the open source content management system, Joomla!, with the Fireboard extension added for forum support. Compared to my original static HTML pages and forums, Joomla! is a monster, and I have spent the bulk of the time since generating the site just turning options off. The remainder has been spent searching for a theme that is laid out roughly the way that I want. None that I’ve found thus far have been perfect, but then I expect there will be a good chunk of time dumped into editing cascading style sheets and selecting graphics.
Expect the layout to change a few times before it settles down. In the mean time, please feel free to look around.
